Plumlov

The arresting Plumlov Chateau was built on the earlier site of a 13th century castle on a rocky hill above the Hloucela River. The castle had a long history and was associated with several important Czech royal dynasties and noble families such as the Přemyslids, Luxembourgs, Rosenbergs, the Lords of Kunšát, and of Pernštejn until, finally the Liechtenstein family in the early 17th century.

After severe damage during the Thirty Years War, Jan Adam of Liechtenstein began an ambitious reconstruction between the years 1680-90. Originally designed to have four massive wings to reflect the social status of the family, spiraling costs meant that only one of this monumental Renaissance style building was completed giving the chateau its unusual appearance.

The building fell into disrepair in the 20th century and is still undergoing renovation. Visitors can take a unique tour that includes unfinished parts of the building.
